The Ultimate Guide to Fundraising

Fundraising is an exciting process to help earn money for your favorite school or charity.  Even though it is exciting, it can be a very daunting task to decide where to start and how you are going to get the ball rolling.  We have created this easy 10-Step Guide to help you be successful in your fundraising endeavor.

#1 Have a Goal – If you don’t know what you are reaching for, how will you ever get it?  This is by far the most important thing you will do when creating your fundraising campaign.  Often times people will donate more money just to help you hit your goal because their goal is to help you reach your goal.

#2 Details, Details, Details – Once you have established your goal that others can see, you will need to explain why it is so important that you reach that goal and what you are going to accomplish with the money once you receive it.  People make donations based on their emotions and if you haven’t conveyed the importance of your goal, the public will not be engaged and not feel the need to donate.  In today’s world, one of the best ways to convey your message and goal is to create a video.  It is by far the most effective way to tell your story in a short amount of time and can engage and connect the viewer to your cause.  Be mindful of how long the video is.  Most people don’t have the time or don’t feel like they have the time to watch a 10-minute video while scrolling through their social media feed but a 3 to 4-minute video is much more justifiable and statistically proven that more people will watch it.

#3 Don’t do it all yourself – You have plenty of people that want to see you and your organization succeed.  You should invite those who want to help you to be on your team.  Team members can help share the load and help motivate others.  Tracking what each team member does can also be a fun & friendly competition to see who is making the most progress.  These people may also run in different circles than you or may know different people on social media, so when you share your post about your campaign they can help spread the word, which brings us to our next point.

#4 Social Media – To share or not to share…  If no one knows about your campaign, how will they donate to it?  Don’t be bashful!  Be proud that you are trying to make a difference, and spread the word often.  If your campaign goal is more than a month away you are going to need to share it multiple times throughout this period.  Be specific, ask your friends for their help in donating and also ask them if they will share it as well.

#5 Email your supporters – You have plenty of people in your organization who want to help but don’t know how.  Email them using our website.  With Elefundo you can log in to your account and send emails to your supporters thanking them for their donations and also tell them about the benefits of using Elefundo for all of their shopping needs.

#6 Shop to Give & Local Businesses – Let them know about our Chrome browser extension that will remind them if they are on one of our affiliate stores that they could be earning money for your organization.  This doesn’t cost them any money.  They simply install the plug-in and once they visit a partnering site it will pop-up a notice letting them know how much that online store will donate if they shop through Elefundo.  The customer then checks out as normal on that site and Elefundo gets paid for driving them traffic.  This commission is how Elefundo is able to pay your organization for shopping online.

Encourage people to get quotes from local businesses on our site.  Local businesses only have so much money they can use for marketing and they want to help out at the same time.  Using the ‘Shop Local’ button allows the local business to provide a quote/estimate and support your organization at the same time.  You generally will make more money from these local businesses than the national companies.  It’s a Win-Win.

#7 Automatic Donations – Many people will continue to support your organization every month, but we all live busy lives and sometimes forget.  By using the Automatic Donation button they can set up a recurring donation each month.  There is no risk, and they can stop the withdrawals at any time.

#8 Elefundo App – Yes, we have an app and you should use it.  This will make your life easier when shopping online.

#9 Direct Mail – Email is effective, but it can be a hard way to market.  People get so many emails that they don’t take the time to open them.  Mailing out a flyer or sending one home with students and other members can be very helpful.

#10 Add your Elefundo link – Many organizations have a website, but forget to link their Elefundo account to their site.  Generally, people will be more supportive if they know you have sent them to Elefundo directly from your site.  Then they know they can trust Elefundo as the site you are using for your fundraising campaign.
